The Heartlanders 4 H Dog Project recently had several members compete in the annual 4 H State Fair Dog Show in Tampa. On February 10th and 11th, dog project members

Sydney Ruble, Cassie Hare and Kimber Harris joined over 200 entrants and their dogs for two days of fur and fun at the Tampa Fair. Sydney showed her sable sheltie "Evie" and took fourth place in advanced agility and second place in novice obedience. Sydney also showed her bi-blue sheltie, T.J. in advanced agility and novice obedience.

Cassie and her chocolate lab, Koda, made their showing debut at the state fair and came home with a white ribbon in junior showmanship. She and Koda also received participation ribbons in basic obedience, agility and rally. We are expecting some tough competition from them in the future.

"Rainbow" and won a blue ribbon in junior showmanship and a first place blue ribbon in basic obedience. They also won a second place red ribbon in rally and a fourth place pink ribbon in basic agility. The 4-H dog project has added a new Quiz Bowl competition in which the 4-member teams compete to answer showing, dog care and maintenance related questions. Kimber's team placed first during the state fair round.

The 4 H Dog Project is open to all Highlands County children between
the ages of eight and eighteen who would like to learn more about handling and training their dogs. The club meets on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. at the YMCA basketball courts.
