Rebecca Morrell is 11 years old and is working on her first
dog project here in Sumter County with the Horsin Around 4-H Club. Along with
joining a newly started 4-H club, this will be the first year that she and
Sumter County have several children participating in the Florida 4-H Dog
Project Program paving the ways for others to come. It has truly been a
learning process as she has completed a horse project and shown horses in 4-H
for the past three years.

This has truly been a learning experience for the
entire family being that we have always been involved with
horses.
Rebecca acquired Molly approximately one year ago, when Molly
was found running down a road way in a cold and terrible storm. Molly was very
underweight and scared of just about everything. As time has gone on, Molly has
become a valuable member of our family and Rebecca has helped overcome many
things.

Rebecca had the
opportunity to meet Deb Adams who has helped the children in Sumter County with
their obedience training tremendously. Rebecca and Molly had to work very hard
at the simplest of tasks being that Molly is very energetic and her attention
span is almost nonexistent. Rebecca showed Molly at the annual Florida 4-H Dog
Show in Tampa and competed in |
|
Showmanship were she obtained a red ribbon. She also showed in
Rally where she earned a participation ribbon and placed third in the Junior
Basic Obedience. Both should be proud of their efforts and accomplishments for
their first year.
Rebecca also decided that Molly would make a
wonderful therapy dog and wanted to share her with others here in Sumter
County. The two participated and graduated from Therapy Dogs Incorporated as
the youngest team. Rebecca was required to obtain several letters of
recommendation and needed special approval from Therapy Dogs Incorporated due
to her age.
