Star Bright 4-H
Obedience is a young club in St. Lucie county for all kids who love dogs and
want to learn how to work with them. There work a wide variety of dogs from a
Mastiff, Labrador, Bouvier des Flandres and Dogo Argentina, to Chihuahuas. And
these young 4Her's are learning to be responsible dog owners as well as to
become good dog trainers. .
This club is designed to help kids learn how to become organized,
set goals, keep track of costs of their pets, meet requirements to participate
in county, state, or national 4-H events, and teach their pets obedience,
rally, agility and conformation skills. A few of the members have started to
compete in AKC and UKC junior showmanship and in the South Florida Fair.

They are learning to care about their
community as a whole by doing community projects such as raising money for the
American Heart Association, volunteering at the local animal shelter and
helping out at area agility and conformation dog shows. This will be the fourth
year that a dog show is held at our county fair. Last year we incorporated
Rally obedience competition into the lineup of costume class, junior handling
and obedience. During this year we are just starting to learn about all the
different pieces of agility equipment. All of our kids are bright
stars
